Dec. 14th, 2005 02:12 pmSome people on my friends list took an urban-planner-designed "Where You Should Live" quizlet. I scored about what one might expect, though there is an argument to be made for this one too. The walkable grocery store is really the important thing.
But that's not why I'm posting this. No, I'm posting because of the author's hilarious, elitist rant about suburbs. It's like what I might say... on a bad day... if you took away my frontal lobe.
(What makes his rant so elitist, apart from the general lifestyle snobbery, is how he totally ignores the way economic realities can drive people's desires. Even if most people wanted what I want in housing, there's no way they could afford it on an ordinary income without some major sacrifices, such as forgoing ownership altogether, so isn't reshaping desire accordingly the smarter thing to do? Alas, it's a lesson I've yet to learn...)
