Strange mail
Aug. 2nd, 2007 09:47 pmWe came home after a shopping trip to find an unmarked (not mailed) gift bag in our mailbox. It contained two T-shirts featuring fish skeleton pirates. We hemmed and hawed, then decided it was probably meant for another apartment, and that if we were wrong we could expect a phone message explaining it. Well, we got three phone messages but they didn't really explain it. It was a male guest at our wedding last summer, calling from a Maryland number, saying he was "in the neighborhood," wondering why we weren't home, and saying that we should get what the gift is about and if we don't, oh well, we'll just think it's goofy. He never identified himself.
We don't know what the fish skeleton pirates are about, needless to say.
My best guess is that this is my mom's best friend's husband, who has been a bit troubled these last years. It kind of sounds like his voice, and it would be in character for him to do something this impulsive. He was, after all, the one who chose my wedding day to compliment me on the sweat stain between my breasts. And he was the one to tell me, upon meeting Graham for the first time, at my grandfather's funeral, "no wonder your mom liked
sam16 better." So in comparison to those things, this is pretty tame. It's not rude, it's even almost friendly. Almost.
EDIT: I am now fairly certain that it was this guy, because my mom happened to mention to me in an email this morning that she talked to her friend last night because Troubled Husband is out of town.
