I had an interesting experience on the bus this morning. I was sitting in the back with my novel and a guy interrupted me and said, "Y'all like to read, huh?" I said yeah and told him a little about the book, but then the guy next to him interrupted us and said to the first guy, "What do you mean by 'y'all'? I read that shit too." The first man wouldn't answer.

I wonder why random conversations happen more often at the back of the bus?

Becuase the bus driver is far away and less likely to scold

In Anchorage random conversations tend to happen toward the front of the bus. People sit in the back to escape the talkative bus drivers....

I was wondering about the plural too. Although I have had scarily depressing things about y'all being used in the singular and the word "y'alls" existing. I hope that that was merely a nightmare I had.

Those who sit in the back like to watch people. When you watch how others interact you get a better sense of how to interact yourself, resulting in more confidence and an increased likelihood of talking to random people with novels. For instance.
