I found out that thing my heartrate does is not actually abnormal, but is, if anything, an indicator of being young, healthy, and in the habit of exercising. Or of being an infant. Who knew?

In other news, in a game of RoboRally last night I died so often I eventually decided to give up and throw myself off a cliff. Er, my robot self. The real self went to check something on the int0rnet.

In other other news, just about everybody I know in the department is away for a conference, AND it's almost spring break for the kiddos. When the cat's away the mice get bored. Maybe this calls for a couple days of holing up in the library and reading random shit. I haven't done that in ages. OTOH I suppose grading my students' exams should come first...

Uhhh... I never thought much of that heartrate thing. I'd always assumed it was normal. Thing is, I'm not that much in the habit of excercising (unless you count my commute). Does this make me an infant?

:) No, probably just young and healthy does the trick for you. Or maybe curling is enough. Actually, a half hour walk or so on weekdays probably is enough to keep you in better shape than a good chunk of the populace. My own exercise regimen is a bit more vigorous, but is only about 40 minutes on weekdays.

I was never sure whether it was an issue or not. I'd noticed it and it seemed weird, just because my stereotype for a good heartbeat included evenness. But some unevennesses are better than others, I guess!

Infants' body processes are just all bizarre. She still hasn't got "breathing" down. I shudder to think what her heart sounds like.

Well, respiratory sinus arrhythmia turns out to be an efficiency thing, according to that one article, so at least that sort of weirdness isn't the bad kind. :)

I think I know what you mean, though -- it's totally amazing how vulnerable infants are. This seems like one of those things that could only happen because we're such a social species. If we'd had the parenting practices of, say, sea turtles, we'd be extinct.
