I found an unlabeled mix CD containing some songs I don't know; here's the approximate track listing.


1. An amusing 80s-sounding song including the line "You read me my rights and then you said 'Let's go'"
2. A Counting Crows song I don't know, including the line "She is standing by the water, as her smile begins to curl"
3. Something unfamiliar including the line "We've broken down and broken up so much that I am numb"
4. Something by the Smiths or Morrissey; the words begin nearly a minute into the song. "She said , 'He never really looks at me; I give him every opportunity'"
5. R.E.M., "She Just Wants to Be"
6. "Mercedes Benz" -- not sure who's singing it (live recording, sounds too recent to be Janis Joplin)
7. Counting Crows -- the live Mr. Jones (which makes me think this is probably vja2's mix...)
8. Somebody other than R.E.M. -- Nightswimming, also live
9. "you said 'Punchbuggy Red' and punched me in my left eye"?
10. Another Counting Crows song...
11. R.E.M. -- "My public service announcement followed me home the other day" -- don't know this one but it's amusing! Oh; is this called "We All Fall Down"? Good song!
12. That terribly haunting song about Wendy... more suspicion that this is vja2 ;)

Sound familiar to any of you? I was in a mix exchange some years ago but apparently I didn't keep stuff organized very well...

The title for 11 is actually "Bad Day"; it's a really fun song! Look up the video on YouTube -- it's well done.

If vja2 ever sees this, I'm really curious as to the artist on #8!

Thanks for the definitive vote. :) My other guess was that it was one of yours -- what with all the R.E.M., and also it has that funny property that your music taste has of including songs I don't know, but like more or less immediately -- but once I heard three Counting Crows tracks, V seemed a more obvious choice.

I think I need to pull out my friends' mix CDs more often. It's fun to hear stuff that's not actually in my collection. And some of my very favorite songs are ones I've first heard on mixes (I'm looking at you, exilejedi and madmanatw).
