Upstairs Guy went to court today and was formally evicted. Yay!
Currently, it's the on-paper kind of eviction. He has until the 6th to move out. If he doesn't, he gets the sherriff-shows-up-and-hauls-your-ass-out kind of evicted on the 7th. And it would be tough for him to move out voluntarily, because now that the eviction is on his record, he's going to have a really, really hard time getting a new lease anywhere. Except maybe some kind of weird hellhole that doesn't do background checks.
It is probably kind of evil of me to be happy about this this since homelessness is really not a good thing and other than this he's been an okay neighbor. And eviction has got to be an incredibly humiliating thing to go through. And I don't want him to wind up like the "Change Guy" who roams Willy Street and twitches. (And in any case my impulse to grab a lawn chair and some popcorn is definitely evil.) But he really could have avoided this. It's not like there's a housing shortage in Madison. And it's not like he didn't have plenty of warning.
Anyway, this means we finally get to have an upstairs lesbian soon! Hooray! That is certainly cause for guilt-free celebration. :)
