The financial crisis this fall has made me wonder, for the first time, whether major-party presidential nominees are ever tempted to say, "You know what? Never mind."
I don't know about the two candidates, but have you noticed that Bush has totally checked out? Like, he can't blame this on "terra", so he doesn't care.

I think if you're willing to run for top office, you are typically willing to stick it out. But I've thought the same thing. Recently I've wondered whether McCain is giving up, or that Palin is on his behalf (trying to build up her own career at the expense of this race.)
