Yah I heard a few legal scholars theorizing this would happen. While specific cases are in question, the overal legality of rendition is desirable... for instance it could be used against Bush by other countries if Obama for political reasons opts not to prosecute.... etc.
I think the main problem here is the secrecy. In several other ways, Obama has opened up what Bush & Cheney had kept secret. A lot of us were hoping he'd do it in this case, too.
"rendition" in general just means transferring someone to a different jurisdiction. Legal extradition is a form of rendition. So the legality of rendition in general has never been at issue.
Yeah, he's been doing a couple things like this that have been disappointing me. For the most part he's been great (and by *any* measurement a huge improvement), but he's definitely not perfect.
