To avoid the angry, frothing mob of union workers picketing the local bike shop.
Little does she know, two blocks down on the other side of the street, there's an angry, frothing mob of classicists picketing a local showing of Gladiator. What can I say, it's a cruel, cruel world for ukeleles.

I actually did try to cross the street yesterday to avoid the frothing Mass PIRGer, but there was another one on the exact opposite side! Argh! Why do you block my coffeehouses so? And what is it about me that screams, "invade my personal space even while I aggressively avoid eye contact with you?"

So I just walked in the street.

Gotta say I might join the angry, frothing classicists though. I can totally get my froth on about inaccurate portrayals of the classical past.

You look like a friendly motherly sort. People don't expect you to violentatly attack them and drink their blood. Without that fear factor, they have less reason to stay away. Try carrying a large visible weapon around with you.
