Over the last few months I have become a fan of a particular webcomic that often makes references I don't get. Just now I went to Wikipedia to look up one such reference (bearing in mind of course that no one mentioned in this webcomic killed JFK) and found a reference in the article to the references made by the webcomic. I can't decide whether to be amused that the intornets know my mind or really disturbed that I'm part of a subculture so myopic that it thinks webcomic allusions are worthy of note in an encyclopedia (or at least what passes for an encyclopedia in said subculture). I think I'm going to go with the latter.

Yup. That would definitely be the Webcomic Of Cultural Allusions Which I Do Not Get. Great t-shirts, though. [livejournal.com profile] nonnihil was wearing his future corpses of America one the other day, and someone asked what it said, and then she looked at him really weird.

Having looked up this particular allusion to a performance artist who had a thing for lard, I think I can safely say that it's much more charming when you don't get the allusion and can continue hoping it's something profound.

Anyway, ignoring lard for the moment, it has the format I like to see in comics: big ideas, small space. That's what drew me to my first comic love, Calvin and Hobbes, and it tends to be what I like about the others I read.
