For Graham's birthday yesterday, we went to a music doubleheader -- Yid Vicious followed by Rock Star Gomeroke. The drummer of both bands was celebrating his birthday, too, and his wife gave Graham a shout-out from the stage. Awesome.

Gomeroke was a neat experience, and everyone in Madison should go at least once. The concept: karaoke with a live backup band (the Gomers) and much better miking. The quality of the singers was really surprisingly high compared to other karaoke I have seen. Of course, there were odd ducks of every stripe there, too, including my "favorite" odd duck, a Jimmy Carter lookalike with a penchant for songs about pot and for leering obviously at the barely-legal Jamison whisky hook^H^H^H^Hsaleswomen. Gomeroke happens every Tuesday and also on some Fridays, and I think we'll go again soon, so hit me up if you wanna come.

Was the crazy guy there? 40's, dude, a little big. Does a lot of upbeat classic rock, seems kinda drunk. He's really good. totally my favorite.

The guy with white hair and 2 chins? Yeah, he was surprisingly good, with a powerful voice. Not a ton of stage presence but not too bad either. I was pleasantly surprised.

gomeroke sounds very entertaining. Does it tour, or is it purely a Madison institution?

Good question! I don't know of any Gomers tours and it says nothing about touring on their website. But it never hurts to email them and ask.
