In the inevitable jitters and bitten nails of Election Day, here's a suggestion. Think of someone you really can't stand who favors your candidate. Now imagine how bad he's gonna feel when your guy loses. Feel better? No? Well, it was worth a try. --Andrew Sullivan

I can think of one, actually. But no, it didn't really help. When people who suck get frustrated, they invariably suck more.

that's a good idea, but you're right -- it doesn't really work. Especailly since most of the people I hate favor the other candidate and it really upsets me to think of how happy they are right now.

Actually, what makes me feel worse is thinking about how happy my conservative friends are. It makes me feel like I must be some kind of alien, living in a different world with different facts. How else could people I respect differ from me so much in this regard?

I mean, given that I am part of an America wherein conservatives and liberals generally don't have what anyone would call civilized conversations, the number of conservatives I know socially is fairly small, so there is more sympathy than alienation to be found in my social circle. But that doesn't make me feel any better.

There's an immortal statement. Yours, I mean, not Sullivan's.
