Apparently there is an identity theft scam involving jury duty. The deal: Dude calls you up and says either that you're up for jury duty or that you're going to be prosecuted for failure to report for jury duty. Then when you protest that you haven't received any notice in the mail, they ask for your SSN and birthdate so they can "verify" your jury duty assignment. You can read about it at fbi.gov or uscourts.gov.

It is not a new scam, but has been pretty active in the last few years, and since I hadn't heard of it before today I thought it might be worth a PSA.

Also: I am super proud because before forwarding this warning to me, my mother checked out the scoop from the good people at Snopes. :)

The artist behind the first webcomic I ever enjoyed came out today as transgender. I had one of those celebrity crushes on him for quite some time, and now, presto... he's a woman! I wonder if that makes me a retroactive lesbian? :)

Seriously, though, it seems to me that as long as gender identity and sexual identity are viewed categorically, you'll wind up with relationships that you can't explain very easily. Like "I'm a gay man in a relationship with someone who's now a woman," or "I'm a straight woman in a relationship with someone who plans to transition to life as a man next year." Not that moving from category to continuum makes anything easier to describe in words, really, but at least you wouldn't come across these ... pseudocontradictions, where the relationship makes total sense, actually, and it's only that you don't have the right words to make other people see how it all fits.
