I didn't get enough sleep Thursday night, for stupid reasons, so what did I do last night? Naturally, I took a thirteen-mile walk.

I came in about three miles behind Graham, but I'm still proud. It's like a half-marathon, only slower! And it's probably the farthest I've ever walked in one 24 hour period (though I did get a few hours of sleep in the middle).

Didn't come close to being a fundraising champ (despite the generous donations of my friends), because my god some people are insane, but I did do some other fun stuff:

* walked a three-legged lap with my mom, a survivor of breast cancer (5 years and counting!)
* won a $10 gift certificate to an Irish pub in a raffle
* spent time getting to know one of our new brothers, who apparently grew up fairly close to [livejournal.com profile] sam16
* realized that "Barbie Girl" came out my freshman year of college, which was eight years ago, which means I am officially old

And then, instead of coming home to nap, like my mom and my normally-energetic partner in crime, I grabbed a tall grasshopper mocha, braved the chill of the first outdoor farmers' market to get some tasty veggies and a pretty plant, went to Ace to buy some garden tools, installed a new doorbell, and am about to try to get our network working well again. Why can't I be this productive when I'm not sleep-deprived?

If I need to be really productive, I schedule some 'going out with friends' time. Then I say things like "crap, I need to leave in 1.5 hours and have a lot to do. Panic!" And then I get a whole bunch done in that 1.5 hours. But if I have 7 free hours, nothing gets done. Go figure.

Remind me to tell you sometime about that night me & two of my high school classmates walked 6 miles down a dirt road in the middle of the night after a party. No, we were not even the slightest bit drunk, and neither was our ride.

I'd like to see them do a dizzy-bat fund raiser. People donate both to watch dizzy-bat races, and then there'd be a special donation for the quantity of vomit someone produces!

Well, _I'd_ donate money to it.

Huh, that "GreenGarlicII" looks almost exactly like what I would ordinarily call either a green onion or a scallion, pretty much interchangeably. Do you know if there's any difference between the three?

On another note: pshaw, *my* freshman year of college was *ten* years ago. And I still hang out with a club that gets new freshman every year - that's always great for feeling old.

An another other note, related not to your post but to a comment: what the heck is a dizzy-bat race?

Yeah, that. On the other hand, a good friend of mine is in the same boat, is about 6-7 years older than me, and looks 15 years older. So I can always keep things in perspective. :)

A year or two ago, I finally started really appreciating looking 6-7 years younger than my age.

Nope - green garlic is definitely distinct from green onions and scallions; it is actually just young garlic, harvested in springtime. You can use the leaves as well as the rooty part. Tastes, well, more green. :)
